Australia Day 2018 Toogoom
It was a fantastic day at the Toogoom Australia Day celebrations today. The day started with a flag raising ceremony attended by our local Councillor Rolf Light who made a great speech and our state member Bruce Saunders who raised the Australian Flag. The turn out was great to see with over 100 Toogoomites & friends coming down and enjoying the sunshine and festivities.
After the ceremony everyone adjourned to the cool air conditioned hall for a lunch put on by the wonderful ladies of the Toogoom & Districts community association. This was followed by three rounds of trivia which was won by Rolf Lights table. Bill and Kate’s table won the most unusual group name with the Toogoom Toadfishes. After trivia wrapped up a fantastic dessert of pavlova and lamingtons with custard and chocolate ice cream was devoured by all followed by a relaxing time for all with few drinks served up by John Upton and Ken.
Face painting by Jess put smiles on the kids faces and there was plenty of activities to keep the kids entertained.
Later in the afternoon the RSL club members sat back and enjoyed a few cold ones with free entertainment put on by Howard police patrols outside the front door pulling over those motorists who were unfortunate enough to be caught breaking the law.
A huge thank you to Bruce Saunders, Rolf Light, Martin Bellert, John Upton, the ladies, Ken, Ken, Jack Crooks and all the members of the community association and RSL who helped out and made this day the great day out it was.
