Queensland Weather Situation
An upper low lies over the southern interior of Queensland and will shift slowly northwards over the interior during Monday and Tuesday before shifting into the northeast tropics on Wednesday and Thursday. A low level trough is moving westwards across the Coral Sea towards the Capricornia coast this morning with a convergent wind flow to its south acting as a focus for heavy rainfall about the Sunshine Coast and Wide Bay coasts. This coastal trough and associated area of heavy rainfall is expected to drift slowly northwards along the east coast over the next few days, however there is some uncertainty associated with the development of this trough. The upper low will also combine with the moist air mass in place across the state to result in showers and storms over much of the state in the next next few days. A slow moving high in the Tasman Sea extends a firm ridge into southeast Queensland to the south of the trough leading to a strong, moist easterly flow over southeast Queensland. Issued at 4:30 am EST on Monday 16 October 2017 by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology.
